RecExport Support

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I start recording?

Tap the record button on the main screen. Recording starts instantly. Tap again to stop.

Q: How do I set up cloud upload?

Go to Settings > Cloud Settings and tap the cloud service you want to use. Sign in with your account, and future recordings will automatically upload.

Q: Can I upload to multiple cloud services at once?

Yes! You can configure multiple destinations. Each recording will be uploaded to all enabled services simultaneously.

Q: Does uploading use mobile data?

By default, uploads use any available network. You can enable "WiFi-only upload" in Settings to restrict uploads to WiFi connections only.

Q: What is a context file?

A context file is a Markdown document attached alongside your recording. It contains metadata like filename, date, and duration - useful for AI transcription workflows with services like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.

Q: Where are my recordings stored on the cloud?

Recordings are uploaded to a "RecExport" folder in your cloud service. This folder is created automatically.

Q: What audio format is used?

Recordings are saved in M4A format (AAC codec), which provides excellent quality at small file sizes.

Q: I'm having trouble with cloud authentication.

Try disconnecting and reconnecting the service in Settings. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. If the issue persists, contact us.

Q: Can I start recording quickly or hands-free?

Yes. Assign RecExport to the Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and later) to start recording with one press, or add the RecExport control to Control Center. You can also say "Start recording with RecExport" to Siri. While recording, you can stop from the Lock Screen via the Live Activity. (iOS does not allow third-party apps to start the microphone from the Lock Screen without unlocking.)

Q: Can I back up to my own server instead of a big cloud?

Yes. In addition to Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox, RecExport can upload to any WebDAV or S3-compatible storage you run yourself — for example Nextcloud, Synology, MinIO, Cloudflare R2, or Backblaze B2.

Q: Can I get notified when a recording is backed up?

Yes. You can send a notification to Slack, Telegram, ntfy, Discord, or your own webhook when a recording is saved — pick a service and paste one link. Only category information is sent (no audio and no transcript).
